FAQs General What is handy? handy is a travel guide on a smartphone specifically designed for travelers visiting Hong Kong. For a low rental rate of HK $88 per day handy will provide you with an Android smartphone which comes with unlimited 3G internet access, unlimited local and international phone services, discount deals and a myriad of other features. Absolutely no hidden charges. What is included in the handy package? You'll get a Samsung Galaxy Note or Google Nexus device, a spare battery, a charger, a USB link cable. Do I have a choice of hardware? Yes, you can choose between the Samsung Galaxy Note and the Google Nexus. Is handy tethering capable? Yes, at no extra charge handy can be used as a mobile hotspot to connect any Wi-Fi enabled device to the internet. Can I put the SIM card in another mobile device? The SIM card included with your handy will not work with any other mobile device. Likewise, your handy will not work with any other SIM card. Please don't tamper with the SIM card or else we may have to charge you to fix it back up. How do I make an international call to one of the 26 countries/regions supported by the handy service? Input + [country code] [area code] [local number]. For example, to call Chicago, USA (Country Code 1 and Area Code 312), you would dial + 1 - 312 - XXX XXXX.

Keep in mind some locations do not have an area code.
Registration and Payment How do you charge usage? The rental fee of HK $88 per day is accounted at midnight for the next day's usage. The full rental period payment is collected on the first day. Why do you charge a day's usage fee for first day and last day when I only use handy for less than 24 hours? Our data and phone service provider's computer system is designed to bill us at midnight. For accounting purposes, we have to do the same. What do you need from me to register? A credit card (Visa or MasterCard) will be needed for payment and registration purposes. We do not charge a deposit, but we do take an 'authorization hold' on your credit card which gives us permission to charge you in case something drastic happens, like the phone is irreparably broken.

If you don't have a credit card you may pay the rental fee in cash, and we would in this instance take a cash deposit.
Pick up and Return Where do I pick up my handy? You can pick up your handy from:

Booth A03 or B12 in the Arrivals Hall at Hong Kong International Airport (opening hours : A03 – 7:00am to 11:00pm / B12 – 8:00am to 11:00pm).

The Tink Labs office at 1/F, 101 King's Road, North Point, Hong Kong from 9:30am to 6:00pm ( Monday to Friday)

Or if you are arriving out of our service hours, you may also choose our hotel delivery service. The option is available on our online reservation system, and a wide range of hotels are included on the list. Once we receive your confirmation, your handy will be ready for you when you check into the hotel room.
Where do I return the device? You can return your handy to Booth A03 or B12 in the Arrivals Hall at Hong Kong International Airport (opening hours : A03 – 7:00am to 11:00pm / B12 - 8am to 11pm).

If you wish to return your handy when our service counter is closed, you may also choose to put your handy into a drop-off box at Booth A03 in the Arrivals Hall at Hong Kong International Airport. There will be directions on the box to tell you how to successfully return your handy.
Do I get to keep the device? handy devices are not for sale, we simply rent them out. Also, they won't work anywhere else or with another SIM card. What if I can't drop it off in person / forgot to return handy and I left the country? If you are really rushed you can mail it to the Tink Labs / handy office address (as above). Please let us know in advance by calling or emailing us at cs@tinklabs.com.

If you've already left the country rental fees are applied until we receive the device and accessories. Contact our customer service hotline as soon as possible and we will provide you with instructions for mailing us the device. You have up to 30 days to mail back the handy. Additional rental extension and courier fees may apply when mailing your handy to our mailing address in Hong Kong.

Apps on handy What is preloaded in handy? handy is preloaded with our proprietary software specifically designed for tourists visiting Hong Kong. We have also included a handpicked selection of applications that we feel will help make your stay even better. These apps include but are not limited to:

Can I load my own applications? You can install any app that is downloadable from the Google Play store. Why can't I use SMS from my handy? We are able to offer unlimited international and local calls, as well as unlimited data at such a low price because we don't include an SMS bundle. You would usually be charged for every single text you send. Your handy device does have unlimited data so feel free to facebook message, gchat, msn chat or tweet to stay in touch with your friends and family. Can I use Whatsapp on my handy? If you would like to use Whatsapp, you can download it through the Google Play store or tether internet from handy so you can use your own mobile phone's Whatsapp. Whatsapp accounts are assigned to a phone number permanently, so you might receive accidental Whatsapp messages directed towards a previous handy user. This is why we choose not to pre-install the application.

Please note that this does not impact your personal data stored on the device at all. All handy devices are totally reformatted back to brand new factory condition so that no personal information is ever stored. This means that although another user might receive new messages directed towards your phone number, your previous message history will be permanently erased after each rental.
handy Deals What are handy deals and how do I buy them? We've scoured the city to find indulgent discounts across dining, nightlife, attractions or experiences, shopping and more. You can even buy tickets to amusement parks, tourist sites and cinema's through the device.

If you used your credit card to pick up your handy then you don't need to input your credit card details again. Simply click the purchase button. With this method handy accepts all credit cards.

If you did not use your credit card to pick up your handy then you will need to 'add' your credit card details to the phone. If you are inputting your card details directly into the phone yourself, then handy only accepts Visa or MasterCard.

After you have added your credit card you are ready to purchase simply by tapping on the screen.
Security and Privacy Do you store my personal data and credit card information on the handy device? No, we do not store any personal data or credit card information on the device itself. All handy devices go through a secure wiping process to ensure that all the personal data, files and any information you store on the device is completely erased. Losses or Damages What are the charges for lost/stolen handy devices? We take a credit card authorization hold just in case the device is lost or stolen. In the event that an accessory (i.e. a battery, cable or charger) is missing we will charge you a nominal fee to replace them. You agree to and sign-off on our Terms and Conditions when you pick up your handy. You can check our Terms and Conditions here. What are the charges for scratches and damage? Depending on the severity of the damage, we will charge you the cost of repair. Normal wear and tear is expected, so don't worry. You'll be fine as long as you don't go swimming or play catch with it. You can check our Terms and Conditions here. Why is the price for handy in Singapore different from the price in Hong Kong?
